Do you have what it takes to Beat the Seat?
St Columba’s Hospice is delighted to introduce Beat the Seat – an exciting new cycling challenge taking place on 17 June 2018. It’s a 12-hour circuit challenge around Edinburgh’s iconic Arthur’s Seat open to soloists, pairs and teams of 4 (quads).
Our brand new fundraising event is the only one of its kind in the capital and will challenge cyclists to complete as many laps of the 3.3 mile course as possible in 12 hours. With testing climbs and exhilarating descents, It’s not for the faint-hearted. Entrants will put their endurance to the test with a 338ft ascent while taking in spectacular panoramic views of the city and beyond.
The route follows Queen’s Drive around Arthur’s Seat, following the usual flow of traffic (it is a closed-road event) with the start/finish line on the playing fields beside Dynamic Earth. There will also be a support checkpoint halfway around the lap, by Dunsapie Loch, to assist with any problems.
Our team will be on hand to help out with all aspects of the event and our Hub will be kitted out with essentials to keep you going throughout the challenge – loo’s, catering, music, bike mechanics, spares shop, live timing and lap counts, bag drop and more… Supporters are welcome to come along and cheer you on from the Hub and around the course too.
If you think you have what it takes to Beat the Seat register today – there are a limited number of entries available in each category!
Registration is £60 per person and there is a fundraising commitment of £100 per person. Your registration fee includes entry into the event, a special event cycling cap, your finishers medal, bike mechanic and support throughout your challenge.
The Beat the Seat team will be on hand with lots of fundraising hints and tips to help you smash your target and get you started by creating a dedicated online fundraising page for you to share with your family, friends and colleagues!
So what are you waiting for? Get on your bike in 2018 and take part in Beat the Seat to raise money for your local hospice charity! Your support means we can continue to provide specialist palliative care to people across Edinburgh and the Lothians; whoever they are, wherever they are and whenever they need it.
