About our Centre for Education & Research
St Columba’s Hospice Education Centre opened in early 2012 and offers a wide range of educational opportunities, from study days and short courses to more formal programmes at degree and masters level.
All courses are relevant to those caring for people with advanced, progressive diseases. Whether you provide specialist or generalist palliative care, and work in the community, hospital, care home or hospice, there is something here for you.
Our evidence-based programmes address all aspects of palliative care – physical, psychological, social and spiritual. They also provide participants with the opportunity to explore ethical issues for patients approaching the end of life and to develop their communication skills for palliative care.
We run our undergraduate and postgraduate interdisciplinary courses in palliative care in partnership with Queen Margaret University. In addition to this the Education Team participates in the education of students at a number of higher education institutions including Edinburgh University, Queen Margaret University and Edinburgh Napier University.
The Hospice 5 year strategy 2015-2020 reflects increased commitment to research and for research to form a larger part of the work undertaken at St Columba’s Hospice. Hence the Education Centre became Centre for Education and Research in May 2015, reflecting the expanding role and remit of the Education Team.
