Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapist is a member of the multidisciplinary team and can provide help and specialist advice about a variety of issues affecting your lifestyle. For example, these can be related to how you manage to look after yourself, how you cope with feelings of breathlessness and fatigue, or exploring things that you might want to do with your time.

Together, we can look at these important areas of your life and decide how best to achieve your goals, in the ways that suit you. As everyone's needs are different, and may also change over time, we provide a flexible approach to treatment, and activities that are offered may include:

  • Help with setting manageable goals
  • Advice and practical help in coping with everyday activities
  • Relaxation sessions
  • Participating in creative and leisure activities
  • Sharing and recording memories through memory books and boxes

Occupational Therapy is available to both day hospice patients and those in the inpatient unit at St Columba's, and sessions are available on an individual or group basis, depending on individual needs and preferences.
