At St Columba's Hospice, we are committed to sharing knowledge and skills. The Education Department has excellent facilities and offers a wide range of educational opportunities from study days and short courses to more formal programmes at degree and masters level. Our courses are relevant to those caring for people with advanced, progressive disease - both malignant and non-malignant. Whether you provide specialist or generalist palliative care, and work in the community, hospital, care home or hospice, there is something here for you. Our evidence-based programmes address all aspects of palliative care - physical, psychological, social and spiritual. They also provide participants with the opportunity to explore ethical issues for patients approaching the end of life and to develop their communication skills for palliative care. We run our undergraduate and postgraduate interdisciplinary courses in palliative care in partnership with Queen Margaret University. The Hospice team participate in the education of students at a number of higher education institutions including Edinburgh University, Queen Margaret University and Edinburgh Napier University. Our recent document Making Every Minute Count - St Columba's Hospice: A Learning and Development Strategy for Staff and Volunteers illustrates the Hospice's approach to education.
