In an inspirational display of camaraderie, philanthropy, and determination, the 2023 Dragon Boat Race witnessed an incredible coming together of the business community to support St Columba's Hospice Care. Spearheaded by Fort Ports, a leading maritime logistics company, the event not only raised an astounding £20,000 for the hospice but also featured a spectacular water display by one of their fire ships.

The display saw one of the specially outfitted boats firing water from its twin hoses hundreds of feet into the air, making for a unique sight between the bridges of the Forth.

The dragon boat race, a thrilling waterborne spectacle, saw 100 participants from various organisations, including Forth Ports, Adobe, BlackRock, NVT and Thorntons, as well as St Columba's Hospice Care, competing fiercely for the coveted title. Fort Ports' team ultimately emerged as the victors of the competition, showing a confidence and prowess on the water that befitted one of the UKs largest port operators.

Forth Ports weren’t the only team celebrating though, as with the collective efforts of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, the race surpassed the £20,000 fundraising mark! These funds will play a crucial role in supporting the invaluable work carried out by St Columba's Hospice Care, providing essential care and comfort to those facing life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Jon Heggie, Director of Income Generation commented: "St Columba's Hospice Care has been at the forefront of palliative care, providing compassionate and specialised support to individuals and families during their most challenging times. The funds raised from the Dragon Boat Race will go a long way in ensuring that this vital work continues to touch the lives of those who need it most."

Fort Ports remains dedicated to not only excelling in maritime logistics but also in giving back to the communities it serves. Their enthusiastic participation and sponsorship of this event are a shining example of their commitment to making a positive impact beyond the waters.

Charles Hammond OBE, Chief Executive of Forth Ports said: ”We are proud to sponsor the Dragon Boat race to support the great work of team at St Columba’s Hospice. We also entered our own race team this year too and we were all thrilled to take part.  It was a great day and I would encourage other businesses and organisations to get involved next year."
