Our Hospice team are providing training to local people to support them in doing the things a good neighbour would do for, and with, individuals living with a life-limiting condition and their families.

North Berwick was chosen as one of five Compassionate Communities in Scotland to be part of the national Truacanta Project. The project aims to help create more compassionate and confident communities, able to discuss dying, death and grief, and to support those living with a terminal illness.

Lorna Sinclair, chair of the North Berwick Health and Wellbeing Association says, “It might seem to be a bit depressing to talk about these issues but we have found them to be the most precious conversations you can have with another person.”

Since June 2020, ongoing conversations with the Compassionate Communities team at St Columba’s Hospice Care have been a mutually invaluable source of inspiration and learning, and strong partnership links have been established. These are now helping to shape a Compassionate Neighbours hub in North Berwick. Six local people have begun their training with the hospice team and the community hopes to launch this initiative soon.

If you are interested in becoming a Compassionate Neighbour do contact them through the North Berwick Health and Wellbeing Association.

The community’s series of armchair chats continues, and on Tuesday March 30th will address the topic of making a will and power of attorney. The link to register for this free event is https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/armchair-chat-30-march-2021-tickets-146371183149
