Norval Bryson is the Deputy Chairman of the St Columba’s Hospice
Board of Governors
Norval joined the Hospice as a volunteer Governor in 2004 after being asked by a former Governor if he would replace him as Chairman of the Investment Committee. Norval visited the Hospice expecting to find it a somewhat depressing place and found it was far from that. That discovery, along with a desire to ‘put something back’, encouraged Norval to become a volunteer.
12 years on from that first visit to the Hospice, Norval is Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors. Norval said: “When I joined the Hospice, I started as part of the Investment Committee but after a while I felt I wanted to do more, so started to chair the Executive Committee. After that the other roles just sort of happened!”
“My average day at the Hospice involves lots of meetings, my role is to influence the direction of the Hospice and its finances – making sure we can continue to pay for all the services we offer. Each time I walk through the doors of the new building, I feel proud of the Hospice. Being a volunteer for the Hospice means I am doing something of great value to other people.”
