The Push is Scotland’s toughest outdoor challenge event, taking place on Edinburgh’s doorstep, through the stunning Pentland Hills. Taking place on Saturday 10 September, The Push features three challenging distances to choose from – 14 miles, 20 miles or a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles. You will climb 2,358 meters, tackling off-road tracks and paths along the way. Whether you walk it or run it, The Push offers achievable goals and incredible views in equal measures.
Teams, individuals, colleagues and friends tackle this ultimate cross country challenge for various reasons with many businesses having used The Push as a cost effective team building activity. By achieving something together, you will enjoy a sense of shared pride and accomplishment. Graham Reid, Group Finance Director at Cala Homes, has taken part with his colleagues and said: “Our team completed a number of fundraising events previously and it was important to us to find a new challenge but also to fundraise for a good local cause. The Push gold route for St Columba’s Hospice met our objectives. We put in a number of training walks to ensure we had the confidence to complete our route on the big day and not disappoint our sponsors –we were glad we did because the combination of the marathon distance and elevation (not just up but down too!) provided a really tough challenge. We felt an immense sense of achievement completing the event, not only finishing our first ever marathon but a huge amount of pride in the money we raised for St Columba’s Hospice.”
The Push presents teams with clear targets and defined deadlines; however there are no set paths to completing these end goals. Teams must work together, fundraising and training to ensure they meet their targets, creating many innovative solutions along the way.
The event raises money for Edinburgh’s only independent palliative care provider – St Columba’s Hospice. The Hospice provides free, specialist care to people at the end of their lives, along with support for the patient’s family and loved ones. The Hospice costs £8 million a year to run and must generate 70% of the running costs itself. The Hospice relies on the generosity of the public to meet its running costs – which is the equivalent of £22,000 every day.
