A big thank you to everyone who took on The Push 2016

178 people took on one of Scotland’s toughest outdoor challenge events on Saturday 10 September in aid of St Columba’s Hospice.

The Push saw participants walking or running up to a full marathon distance to raise funds for the Hospice which provides free-of-charge specialist palliative care to people from Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Participants walked or ran one of three routes – 26.2 miles, 20 miles and 14 miles. Those doing the 26.2 mile and 20 mile routes began their challenge at 7am on Saturday morning, with the bronze route starting at 10am and The Nudge starting at 1pm.

The first people to finish the three distances were Raul Salvat who completed the 26.2 mile gold route in 5:47:14, Gordon Lawrie who completed the 20 mile silver route in 4:22:44 and Bill Troup who completed the 14 mile bronze route in 4:08:15.

The Nudge also took place on Saturday, with around 100 people taking part in a five mile orienteering course. There was also giant games, a bouncy castle, picnic area and live entertainment.

Louise Stirton, Senior Fundraising Manager at St Columba’s Hospice, said: “This is one of Scotland’s toughest outdoor challenge events and all the participants have put in hours, days and weeks of training to be fit and ready to take on The Push – and we are incredibly grateful for all their amazing efforts and all the money they have raised for the Hospice. The money raised will fund the Hospice’s much-needed specialist care and support our patients and their families across Edinburgh and the Lothians.”

In the last year the Hospice has cared for 1,145 patients through their inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, day hospice and community nursing team. The Hospice relies on donations from the public to keep the doors open and services running.
