Since the recruitment of new tin collecting volunteers at the beginning of 2016, the total raised has more than doubled from over £16,000 in 2015 to over £30,000 in 2016. Plus, in the first three months of 2017, the Hospice’s tin collectors have further increased the number of outlets in the community taking the total to over 250.

Tin collections play a vital part in fundraising for St Columba’s Hospice. Our tin collections are managed by a group of over 70 volunteers, with each volunteer looking after an area in Edinburgh and the Lothians that is local and convenient to them.

Jon Heggie, Director of Fundraising at the Hospice, said:  “We’ve seen a tremendous growth in the total raised from our collecting tins with an increase in over 80% on the total raised in 2015  – a truly fantastic achievement for our volunteer tin collectors. I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all 72 volunteer tin collectors across Edinburgh for their hard work and continued support, and of course to the shops, cafés, restaurants and locations across Edinburgh and the Lothians that proudly display one of our tins.”
